Your MacBook is your lifeline at university. Essays, research, lecture notes, dissertation drafts - everything lives on that machine. When something goes wrong, you need it fixed fast and you need it fixed right, without breaking your student budget.
We've been repairing Macs since 1999 - longer than most students have been alive. We understand the panic when your screen cracks the week before submission, or your keyboard stops working mid-essay. This guide covers everything you need to know about MacBook repair as a UK student.

Most Common Student MacBook Problems
1. Cracked Screens
The number one student repair. Whether it's a heavy textbook dropped on it, a rushed pack-up between lectures, or an accident at a house party - screens crack. We can usually replace your screen same-day, from £249 depending on your model.
2. Liquid Damage
Coffee, beer, water bottles - we've seen it all. The key is acting fast. If you've just spilled liquid on your MacBook:
- Turn it off immediately (hold the power button)
- Flip it upside down to let liquid drain
- Do NOT put it in rice (this causes more problems)
- Get it to us within 48 hours for the best chance of recovery
3. Battery Degradation
After 2-3 years of heavy use, most MacBook batteries are struggling. If yours doesn't last through a lecture anymore, battery replacement (£149-199) will give you another 4-5 years of use - much cheaper than a new MacBook.
4. Keyboard Issues
The 2016-2019 MacBook Pro butterfly keyboards are notorious for failing. Stuck keys, double-typing, unresponsive keys - we fix them all. Even if your MacBook is out of Apple's keyboard programme, we can help.
Birmingham University Students
We're based in Solihull, just a short trip from all Birmingham universities:
- University of Birmingham - 15 minutes by car, or take the train to Solihull station
- Aston University - 20 minutes by car from Aston campus
- Birmingham City University - Easy access from any BCU campus
Can't make it to us? We offer free collection within 15 miles of Solihull for repairs over £100. Or use our free mail-in service - we'll send you a prepaid shipping label.
Protecting Your Work
Before any repair, we recommend backing up your data. But if your MacBook won't turn on, don't panic - we can usually recover your files even from dead machines. We've saved countless dissertations from "completely dead" MacBooks.
Dissertation backup tip: Use Time Machine AND cloud storage (iCloud, Google Drive, or OneDrive). Your university probably gives you free cloud storage - use it. Losing a dissertation to a hard drive failure is preventable.
