M-series chips, ProMotion displays, and premium price tags. Here's what iPad Pro repairs actually involve and cost.

A customer came in recently with a cracked iPad Pro 12.9" M2. He'd already been to two other repair shops. Both had quoted him, then called back to say they couldn't get the parts, or the price had gone up, or they weren't confident in the repair. We've seen this pattern dozens of times - iPad Pro repairs require specialist knowledge that many general repair shops lack.
We've repaired over 200 iPad Pros in the past two years alone. The displays are more advanced, the tolerances are tighter, and the stakes are higher. This guide explains what makes these repairs unique and what to expect from technicians who actually specialise in premium Apple devices.
Did You Know?
Worth knowing: iPad Pro repairs cost more than standard iPads. The parts are more expensive, and the repair is more complex. But even expensive repairs are typically cheaper than replacement for these £1,000+ devices. For comparison, see our iPad Air repair guide or general iPad screen repair guide.

iPad Pros use Liquid Retina XDR displays with ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate. These aren't standard LCD panels — they're advanced Mini-LED displays (on 12.9" models) with local dimming zones for HDR content. Replacement displays that match this specification cost significantly more than standard iPad screens.
iPad Pro is Apple's thinnest tablet. The M4 model is just 5.1mm thick. Everything inside is precisely engineered, and reassembly requires careful attention. A slight misalignment can affect Face ID, Apple Pencil sensing, or the display itself.
Unlike older iPads with Touch ID, iPad Pros use Face ID. The TrueDepth camera system is separate from the display but must be handled carefully during screen repairs. Damaging these components means Face ID won't work.
iPad Pro displays include sensors for Apple Pencil. Quality replacement displays maintain full Pencil functionality including pressure sensitivity and tilt detection. Cheap displays often lose these features.
Let's be honest about iPad Pro displays:
| Feature | 11" iPad Pro | 12.9" iPad Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Display type | Liquid Retina XDR | Liquid Retina XDR (Mini-LED) |
| Refresh rate | ProMotion 120Hz | ProMotion 120Hz |
| Screen replacement cost | £349-399 | £449-549 |
| Repair time | 2-3 hours | 3-4 hours |
These prices reflect the genuine cost of quality displays that maintain ProMotion refresh rate and Apple Pencil functionality. Cheaper alternatives exist but often sacrifice display quality or features.
| Model | Screen | Battery |
|---|---|---|
| iPad Pro 12.9" M4 | £549 | £299 |
| iPad Pro 11" M4 | £449 | £249 |
| iPad Pro 12.9" M2/M1 | £499 | £279 |
| iPad Pro 11" M2/M1 | £399 | £229 |
| iPad Pro 12.9" (2018-2020) | £449 | £249 |
| iPad Pro 11" (2018-2020) | £349 | £199 |
The calculation is straightforward:
Even the most expensive iPad Pro repair is less than half the cost of replacement. If your iPad otherwise works perfectly, repair almost always makes financial sense.
Pro Tip
When to consider replacement instead: If your iPad Pro is 5+ years old, has multiple issues beyond the screen, or is too slow for your needs, replacement might make more sense. We'll give you honest advice for your situation.
Face ID should continue working after a proper screen repair. The TrueDepth camera system is housed separately from the display. We take care not to damage these components during repair. If you've been to another repairer and Face ID stopped working, bring it to us — we may be able to help.
Full Apple Pencil functionality requires a quality display with proper digitiser components. We use displays that maintain all Pencil features:
Cheap replacement screens often sacrifice Pencil functionality. If you use your iPad Pro for creative work, this matters.
